"Water, water everywhere..."
Are you as strong as Sara Coleridge?
Can you imagine fetching all the water you use in one day using a heavy bucket, and pulling that bucket up a 16-metre-deep well? This was Mrs. Sara Coleridge's job every day during the family's time in Stowey. Whilst Samuel Taylor Coleridge wandered the hills and spent time in his friend Tom Poole's library, his young wife Sara would do all of the housework, including drawing water from their 17th-century well.
Thanks to the successful Special Places raffle, we have managed to restore the winding mechanism for the well, and you can now draw water from Sara's well and find out what it would have been like for her. It's tougher than it looks, so start eating your spinach!
