Bring a group

The north front of Compton Castle, Devon. This front is mainly sixteenth-century but parts of the building date back to the fourteenth century.

The castle is a lovely place for a group visit; the gardens and castle are ripe for exploring. Our group bookings coordinator will be happy to arrange your visit; please be aware that all group visits must be pre-booked.

School and community groups

Compton is popular with schools studying castles. Spark their interest in history in this medieval marvel; look out for the defences, find all the clues in the free kids' trails, and try on the medieval style costumes. Education Group Members have free entry.

Special coach route

Due to the narrow lanes leading to Compton, coaches may only approach via Ipplepen. Take the A381 between Totnes and Newton Abbot and turn left at Ipplepen, clearly signed. Parking for a coach is 30 yards away from the entrance.

Refreshments

There isn't a café at Compton Castle, but just over the road is Castle Barton restaurant (not National Trust) which is open from 10am. Contact Castle Barton on 01803 873314. You could also enjoy a picnic at the benches in the orchard.

Where next?

Bradley is a medieval manor house just down the road, and perfect to combine with a visit to Compton Castle. Talk to our group bookings coordinator about taking your group to visit Bradley when you get in touch.
