Inventory compiling at Coughton Court
Recently the Coughton conservation team have been spending a lot of time working on our inventory check. This is an annual event where we go room by room through the house and check that all of our collections are where they should be!
Each object in the house has a record and our digital collections database records their location. We are constantly updating the database whenever we move an object from room to room. We might move things because we are changing the displays, because we are getting things out of storage, or for a conservation reason, such as changing the position of an upholstered chair which we think is being exposed to too much damaging light in its current location.
So, although we update the collection database all throughout the year, our annual inventory check is a chance for us to do a full, thorough check and account for each and every object that we share with the public at Coughton. It is also a great way for new staff members or volunteers to get to know the collections in great detail, as everything from the biggest wardrobe down to the shiny cutlery must be accounted for!
