Gallery 2: Where ancient meets modern

Gallery 2 at Dudmaston

Move through time in Gallery 2, as objects from our collection transport you from 1127, when the first deed of Dudmaston was granted to the family, right up to present day.

The old Darby Gallery has had a facelift for 2016. Re-named Gallery 2, it is the final gallery in our programme of re-displays. The gallery houses the history of the people at Dudmaston, shown through the objects they once owned. It presents a full timeline from the year dot, which for us is 1127 when the land was first gifted to the family who still reside here today.

The stories of some of Dudmaston's past inhabitants are told through items from our collection, chosen by staff, volunteers and our visitors over the past year. What memories do the Victorian tricycle hold for some local residents? What glimpses of daily life does the Steward's ledger from 1776 reveal?

The exhibition gives these objects a voice, enabling visitors to meet the people from the past in a new and inspiring way.
