How far can I book in advance?
15 months online and 2 years via our Holidays Team on 0344 800 2070.
What is the ‘change over/let start day’?
This is the usual changeover day for that cottage. We do offer some flexibility on the start day within 4 weeks of departure during peak and high seasons. During mid and low seasons you can change the start date up to one year in advance. However some cottages sit outside of this broad rule.
What are short breaks?
A few cottages accept 1 and 2 night breaks, but most minimum stays are 3 nights. See ‘min stay’ on the cottage page. Short breaks can generally be booked within 4 weeks of departure during peak and high seasons and up to one year in advance for mid and low season departures. However some cottages sit outside of this broad rule, contact our Holidays Team on 0344 800 2070 for more information.
Christmas short breaks (min 4 nights) can be booked from 8 weeks in advance.
Can I start my holiday on a Sunday?
None of our cottages allow holidays to start on Sundays. However, we offer a late checkout of 12noon or 4pm on most cottages. You will be notified of this option when booking.
How can I pay my balance?
You will get a balance reminder email/letter around 65 days prior to departure. If you book within 60 days of departure you’ll be asked to pay in full. Balances can be paid via the following options:
- Credit or debit card by contacting our team on 0344 800 2075, please ensure that you have your booking reference. Please also note paying by credit card will incur a 1.5% surcharge.
- Cheque for the amount payable as stated on your confirmation email/letter. Cheques should be made payable to ‘National Trust’ and please write the booking reference and lead name on the reverse. Please ensure this is posted in time to arrive by the balance due date (60 days prior to departure).
- Online bank transfer, please quote the booking reference and lead name for the payment and use the details below.

If you are paying by bank transfer please quote your name and booking reference number to the bank and notify us once the transaction has been made so that we can apply the payment to your booking.
What can we expect in a cottage?
All our cottages are kitted out with a standard inventory and this includes most things you would need to cook a meal or bake. You will need to take all food and condiments. We do provide a pint of milk, tea, coffee, toilet roll, bin liners, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets to help you settle in for a day or so. Further supplies may be needed. We also provide some cleaning supplies, and matches and firelighters for properties with fires.
Can I add extras after I have booked?
Yes you can add relevant extras such logs for open fires or cots etc up to 48 hours in advance of your holiday. Please call our team on 0344 800 2070 and they’ll happily assist you.
When will I get directions/key to my cottage?
You will receive key & direction email/ letter approximately 3 weeks prior to departure. This will include directions and a key code. If you have booked within 3 weeks of departure you will receive this information as soon as the booking is made in full.
What do I do if I have an issue while on Holiday?
Within your key & directions email/letter there’s a dedicated number to call in the unlikely event that you have any issues. Please call us if you are unhappy, as we want every opportunity to put it right.
