Membership in the outdoors

For bike rides, long walks, short runs…or just being the last ones on the beach. When it comes to finding spots to stretch your legs, we can point you in the direction of some very special outdoor places.

On your feet

We look after miles and miles of open countryside and coastline, including National Parks, wooded valleys and coastal paths, and that includes lots of walking trails all over England, Wales and Northern Ireland for you to try. So whether you fancy a long hike, a buggy-friendly meander, or a night-walk for star-gazing we can help you find the way. What’s more, with our downloadable walking trails, online tips and guides, and enthusiastic volunteers and rangers you’ll find inspiration in easy reach.

On your bike

Exploring special places by pedal power is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. From exhilarating mountain-bike trails, gentle rides for the kids or traffic-free cycles that end with a massive cream tea at an outdoor café, we can help you with downloadable cycle trails and, at some of the places we look after, bike rental.

On your marks

Sunrise or sunset, there’s something about running in the outdoors with the wind in your hair that really helps the miles fly by. Whether you’re a complete novice, want to brush up your fitness, or are ready to take things up a notch, we’ve got downloadable trails and events to keep you on track. Why not join in with park runs, night runs, geocaching and orienteering events to meet like-minded runners too?

In the water

You don’t have to be near the coast to enjoy a day splashing about. As well as some special beaches, islands and nature reserves, we also look after creeks, lakes and estuaries. If you’ve always wanted to give canoeing, paddling, surfing or body boarding a go, we can help you out with water sports equipment hire at some of the places we look after, as well as tips and guides on places to head to.

Get to know special places, inside and out

As well as looking after outdoor places, we care for some special indoor places too, from castles to cottages, back-to-backs to barns. National Trust membership will not only give you free parking at nearly all our outdoor spots, but will also give you free unlimited entry to our special places all year round. And because membership raises funds to look after special places, you’d be helping look after your favourite walks, runs and rides for the next generation.
