Time to volunteer in Northern Ireland

As a charity we rely on the support of volunteers to maintain our special places. It is a great way to get out and about and meet new people or gain new skills and experience. In Northern Ireland over 2,500 volunteers annually help the Trust, and they make a massive and greatly appreciated contribution to our work.

Interested? Here’s ten ways you could get involved

Volunteer rangers assist our countryside teams carrying out tasks from essential litter lifts, dry stone walling, education and events, to habitat and wildlife surveys.

If horticulture is more your thing then how about developing your passion for plants at one of our gardens. Get involved in essential maintenance or specialist projects.

Tea-room assistant

If you feel you can handle all the bustle of a service, while still taking the time to chat to visitors then this may be the role for you.

Visitor welcome volunteer

Outgoing and friendly volunteers are needed to meet and greet visitors as they arrive at our special places, as well as to take time to chat and answer their questions.

Administration and office work

Experienced administrators are always welcome to help in offices or with specific projects. If you relish the chance of seeing how our sites really run behind the scenes, this may be the role for you.

Reception volunteer

As we run more events and increase the numbers of days we are open, so the phone rings accordingly. If you have a few hours a week to give then we would love to have you on board.

Event volunteer

Roles are varied from taking bookings, helping with event set up, directing parkers, recruiting members and, central to all of this, drinking lots of cups of National Trust tea.

Volunteer trades people

If you are handy with a wrench or know your architrave from your escutcheon then many of our sites would love to hear from you. Your support and skills can be used protecting our shared heritage where it is needed most.

Learning volunteer

Many of our sites are actively recruiting volunteers to assist with, or even lead, educational activities. So, if you have the talent and the energy, we would love to have you involved.

None of the above?

With over 50 roles from Accountants to Blacksmith, through Mill Hand to Yew Tree trimming we have almost all of the A-Z covered with potential volunteer roles.
