Leave Cawfields car park to the right on the main Roman Wall path passing the quarry. Continue on the path for 0.2 miles (320m).

After passing through the first gate go left slightly downhill and join the road. Turn right and continue along for 0.2 miles (320m) until you reach Cawfields Farm with great views of Cawfields Crags to the right. At the farm the road becomes a rough bridleway. Continue on the bridleway past a farm for 0.3 miles (480m) passing through gates and ignoring the path off to the right until you come to the front of East Cawfields Farm.

Continue on past the farm through a gate and go straight across the field for 0.2 mile (320m) in line with Low Close Burns Farmhouse. At the end of the field go through a gate and cross over the burn via a small bridge. Continue on the path up to the left of Low Close Burns Farmhouse. As you pass the farmhouse go uphill for 0.2 mile (320m) following a line of trees until you come to a stile. Cross over the stile and continue straight up in line with the footpath indicator, keeping the woods ahead of you to the right. After 0.2 mile (320m) you come to the edge of the wood. Follow the wood off to the right for 100yd (90m) until you come to a gate.

Go through the gate and continue across the field to the left as indicated by footpath arrow and guidepost for 0.3 miles (480m), always keeping Edges Green Farm straight ahead of you. You will then come to a Stone stile crossing over a wall to road just in front of Ventners Hall.

Cross over the stile. Turn left along the road and follow for 0.4 miles (640m) until you come to Edges Green Farm.

Just past the cattle grid and Edges Green Farm take the road off to the right. Continue along this for 0.5 mile (800m) going over a cattle grid until you come to Wealside Farm. Continue on behind the farm passing through two gates until you come to a telegraph pole.

Head downhill following the sign for Longsyke, crossing over three stiles taking you into the farmyard behind Longsyke Farm. Once in the farmyard, take the gate out to the right and follow the diverted path around to the bridleway leading up to the farm, going through two further gates. Continue uphill on bridleway for 0.3 miles (480m) until you meet the road.

Turn left at the road and continue on for 0.2 miles (320m) until you reach Well House.

Take the path off to the right here marked Military Road. Continue upwards and off to the right for 200yd (190m) and then cross two stiles and small bridge in quick succession. Continue across the field to the left as indicated for 0.2 miles (320m) until you reach another stile. Cross over the stile and continue across a marsh area for 0.2 miles (320m) keeping the wood ahead to the right, and aiming for the upright stone to the left of the wood at the end of a run-down wall. Once there head slightly to the left as indicated going round the side of the hill for 0.2 miles (320m) until you come to a stone stile at the corner of the field.

Cross over the stile and this takes you back to the main Roman Wall Path. Turn right through gate here and continue on main path for 1.3 miles (2.1km) all the way back to Cawfields car park crossing over Caw Gap and passing Turret 41A and Milecastle 42 with great views of the Pennines and Scottish Borders.
