Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Cloud Farm Campsite.
Is there a reception?
Our reception and campsite shop is staffed from 1.30pm to 6pm. Please check-in from 1.30pm. We also open in mornings for breakfast service and to help you decide where to explore, times vary based on day and time of year.
Where is the nearest food shop, pub and restaurant?
Our reception shop sells basic camping essentials. There are two small convenience stores in Porlock (8.5 miles) and two small convenience stores at Lynton (7.9 miles). For a wider selection of larger supermarkets, Minehead (14.1 miles) is the closest. There are pubs or restaurants in Malmsmead, Brendon, Rockford and Countisbury. Our closest Nation Trust tea-room is at The Buttery (0.6miles).
Where is the nearest ATM?
Porlock (8.5 miles) and Lynton (7.9 miles)
Do you take bookings?
Yes, please book online. If you have any queries, please email CloudFarmCamping@nationaltrust.org.uk.
Do you accept dogs?
Cloud Farm is a dog-friendly campsite and all well-behaved dogs are welcome at no additional charge. They must be kept on a lead at all times and exercised away from other campers. Please pick up after your dogs right away. We have dog waste bins in the main waste disposal site in the campsite carpark and we sell bags in the shop.
Can we go fishing nearby?
No, unfortunately, we do not have a fishing licence for the river.
Do you accept trailer tents/caravans/campervans?
We accept campervans and motorhomes under 6.5m. Our hardstanding pitches have electric hook-up points.We do not accept caravans.
Do you have laundry facilities?
How can we pay?
We do not accept cash at reception or in the shop. Please pay using a bank or credit card or digital payment using your phone or watch.
What beaches are there to visit nearby?
Combe Martin (21 miles) Woolacombe (28 miles), Croyde (31 miles) for Sandy beaches, or Porlock Weir (10 miles) and Lynmouth (7.2 miles) for pebble beaches.
Are you open all year round?
We are open from April to October.
Can I have a fire or barbecue?
Small campfires are permitted, as are barbecues if they are raised from the ground. Wood can be brought in the shop. Please do not use your own wood unless it is free of nails and other debris. We also ask that you do not take stones from the drystone walls to create a fire pit.
Can under 18s stay at the site?
Yes, provided they are with adults over 18.
Do I have to pay for the showers?
Can I park my car by my tent?
Please read the pitch descriptions carefully when booking as some of our fields are car-free.
On the other camping fields, there is space for one car on your pitch. If you have an additional car we will ask you to park in the parking area by reception. There is an additional fee of £5 per additional car per night.
If you arrive on foot, bicycle or public transport you will receive a £2 ‘green’ discount off your entire booking.
How do I get to Cloud Farm Campsite?
From Lynmouth, take the A39 towards Porlock. Just after County Gate car park, look out for the brown sign to Cloud Farm in the direction of Oare. Turn right here and follow the narrow road downhill. At the bottom turn right to Malmsmead and after 1 mile, turn left onto the campsite track. The single lane track up to the campsite is not tarmacked and is rough in places. It is also a public right of way used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Please respect other users and keep to 5mph.
From Minehead, follow the A39 to Porlock and up Porlock Hill. Be warned, it’s one of the steepest A-roads in the UK with a gradient of 1 in 4 in some places. After 5.5 miles, look for the brown sign to Cloud Farm in the direction of Oare. Turn left here and follow the narrow road downhill. At the bottom turn right to Malmsmead and after 1 mile, turn left onto the campsite track. The single lane track up to the campsite is not tarmacked and is rough in places. Arriving by rail: The nearest station is Taunton from where you can take a bus to Minehead and another bus to Porlock. It is then an approx. 8 mile strenuous walk to the campsite or use the summertime Exmoor Coaster bus service to County Gate carpark
Arriving by foot or by cycle: You’ll find us clearly marked on Ordnance Survey maps. Our grid reference is shown below.
We’re three and a half miles from the South West Coast Path, come off near County Gate and continue to Malmsmead. The Coleridge Way is also nearby.
If you’re cycling we’re half a mile off the National Cycle Network 51 route.

Do I have to be a member of the National Trust to stay with you?
No, but speak to Reception if you want to find out more about becoming a member!
Can I camp next to my friends?
When booking online, please read the pitch descriptions carefully to choose your preferred field. On arrival, you will choose a pitch within the designated field. We do not allocate or reserve pitches within the individual fields at Cloud Farm Campsite.
Do you accept walk-ins or do I have to book in advance?
Cloud Farm Campsite is a very popular campsite so we always recommend booking in advance using our online booking system.
