About Castle Ward Bunkhouse

Stay in the grounds where hit TV series Game of Thrones was set, in this well-equipped bunkhouse. All around you’ll find hints of the TV series, from the replica of the Winterfell Archery Range to the castle-like buildings. It also sits within 820 acres of woodland, close to the waters of the Strangford Lough and miles of walking trails, so there’s lots of exploring to be done. With its quiet, countryside location, it's a great base for active families and groups of friends.

It can accommodate up to 14 people and additional tent pitches can be booked at the nearby Castle Ward Caravan Park. Whether you’re looking to go behind the scenes, taking up voluntary work or just want to see this part of Northern Ireland, Castle Ward Bunkhouse is the ideal base to start from. The Bunk House is quality rated and certified by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

More information

Acorn Rating: Please note, that while bothies and bunkhouses show a 1 Acorn rating on this site, facilities are more limited. A bothy offers a ‘camping with walls’ experience, usually with no electricity or running water. Bunkhouses provide simple, accommodation for groups – mostly dormitories with bunk-beds – showers, electricity and heating.

Ferries:  Stena Line offers a 10% discount for National Trust Holidays guests travelling to a cottage or campsite in Northern Ireland. You’ll need your booking reference to access the discount. Please follow this link. We recommend booking your ferry early due to the high demand for popular crossing times at busy times of the year including holiday periods.

Heating: Air source heating and eco electric radiators.  Open fire in the sitting room, starter fuel kit is provided.

Bedding/linen: Pillow protector and pillow.

Parking: There are six free parking spaces adjacent to the bunkhouse. Guests can load/unload near the bunkhouse, approximately 6 feet away. The area is well lit, however the route to the bunkhouse is uphill and uneven.

Garden: The main garden is located to the front of the house and is not fully enclosed. There is a BBQ area (but BBQ not provided).

There are play areas and childrens trails on the estate.
