About Bush camping expeditionFancy taking your camping and brush craft skills to another level? Then look no further.
This is a working holiday with a difference. You will work will the National Trust rangers on various conservation projects for three days, such as fencing, Devon stone-faced bank repairs and invasive weed control, and then indulge yourself in three days and two nights of bush craft. You will face the challenge of building a brush-wood shelter to sleep in (or sleeping under the stars) and cooking on an open fire. On the second night you will have to remember what you have been taught and hike to the other side of the estate (approx. 1 mile) to make a new camp and fend for yourselves (although help will be nearby). The camping will be run in partnership with outdoor survival specialists Wild Path Outdoors where you will experience camp crafts including fire-making, spoon-making, string-making and tracking.
About the accommodation
A stone-built barn that was converted in the 1970s and is situated on the Watersmeet Estate on the North Devon coast. The bunkhouse provides a warm and comfy place to relax after a hard day’s work. There are two dormitories, a leader’s room and bathroom upstairs, plus an additional bathroom downstairs. There is a pleasant garden with picnic benches and a barbecue. If you want to venture a little further, there is a delightful country pub a short walk away. The views of the coast and surrounding countryside are dramatic and spectacular.
Notes for guests
Please bring work/walking boots, waterproofs and thick gloves.
