About Coppicing and charcoal burningCome and coppice hazel and turn it into charcoal on this woodland holiday.
Join our Ranger team for a week learning about these traditional woodland management techniques. Try your hand at coppicing hazel within the beautiful woodlands of Low Wood (near Loughrigg, Ambleside), processing the timber into different products and lighting the charcoal kiln. You’ll also get to take home some charcoal products and learn a few bush craft skills. Full training and equipment will be provided.
About the accommodation
Located in its own peaceful wooded grounds above Lake Windermere with great fell views. The bunkhouse consists of two single-storey cabin-style constructions: the Longland and the Acland. The Longland is made up of three buildings with a large common room with log burner and separate blocks for the dormitories and shower block. The Acland is a self-contained single building. There are large private grounds with a fire pit and barbecue areas.
Facilities: garden, drying room, open fire/woodburner.
Bedding: No bedding/linen provided.
Notes for guests
What to bring: Steel capped boots and waterproofs are recommended, work gloves provided. Old clothes recommended as processing charcoal is a messy job!
