About Orchids and butterfliesHelp with our annual orchid count and conservation work.
Join us for a week of varied of tasks starting with the annual count of orchids in Ticknall Limeyards and they will also be a chance to help with the conservation of a rare butterfly species with some micro-management around its favoured food plant, the wild strawberry. Other work may include clearance around recently planted trees and repairs to paths or steps.
About the accommodation
Home Farm used to be the farm manager’s house for the Harpur Crewe family who ran the Calke Estate for many generations prior to the National Trust taking it on in the mid-1980s. This quiet setting gives good out-of-hours access to walks and encounters with the estate wildlife; badgers, deer and bats are all close neighbours. There is a large yard and grass area outside suitable for BBQs and games. Outdoor chairs and tables are provided. There is a well-equipped kitchen, four showers and storage radiators throughout. The nearest pub is a 2-mile walk through the park to Ticknall.
Notes for guests
Although shorts are great if the weathers good do be aware this is the prime time for the local horseflies to have a feast, so may be better to keep covered up!
A standard kit list can be found on our Essential Information page.
