The best place to find excellent British food is at a farmer’s market. This is where growers, bakers and all kinds of food and drink makers sell their produce direct to you. Here are five of our favourite farmer’s markets held at our places around the country.

‘Level’s Best’ farmers' market, Montacute, Somerset 

The lush, low-lying landscape of the Somerset Levels is well known for its food and drink. In particular, the cider, apple juice and cheese produced here are some of the best in the country. These regular markets offer a chance to taste the best that the region has to offer, secure in the knowledge that Levels' Best group believes in promoting conservation farming for the mutual benefit of producers, consumers and conservation.

Each month, Killerton holds farmers’ and local produce markets to embrace great local food and support surrounding farms and suppliers.

Fine Food Fair, Calke Abbey, Derbyshire 

Local food producers will provide delicious foods to taste and buy in the Riding School. Visitors will be able to celebrate local food that’s been grown, raised, baked or caught, all within a 30-mile radius. You can also enjoy cooking demonstrations and tastings with the Calke Abbey chefs.

Gibside Market, Gibside, Tyne & Wear 

Open for the first and third Saturday of the month, Gibside Market is a great place to buy fresh, seasonal food direct from local businesses. As well as farmers, bakers and cheese-makers, you'll find quality handmade crafts, from artwork to jewellery, soap to honey, plant stalls and photography.
