Conservation work on stone pillars
If you pass by Prior Park at the moment you will notice that a scaffolding structure is covering the main entrance to the garden. Cliveden Conservation, a company specialising in the restoration and protection of stonework, are here working on the historic stone pillars.
A stone urn is being removed and taken away for repair, and the experts will also be working on the historic stonework of the pillars - structures that have stood since Ralph Allen's day.
While the scaffolding structure does allow access through to visitor reception, there will be times when the work going on overhead makes it too dangerous to have people walking below.
At these times the main entrance will be closed, and instead we will be welcoming visitors to the garden a little further down Ralph Allen Drive, at the Rock Gate (approximately 400m further down - so a shorter walk if you are walking from the city centre). There will be signs on the path to direct you.
There will be a message at the top of the website when we need to implement this alternative plan for entry, so please check back on the morning of your visit.
For arriving by local bus (number 2) when main entrance is closed:
Alight on Ralph Allen Drive at the Middle Hill Lodge bus stop.
For arriving on the City Sightseeing tour bus:
Alight stop 'R' - Middle HIll Lodge (you will go past the main entrance to the garden which is at stop 'Q').
