Volunteer opportunities for the dams project

Prior Park wouldn’t be the same without all the wonderful volunteers who lend their time and skills, who welcome visitors, and help keep the garden looking great. As Prior Park moves forward with the upcoming dams project, we are recruiting for several project-specific volunteer roles. These roles will play a vital part in the day-to-day running of the garden throughout the duration of the project. They also offer volunteers an exciting opportunity to be closely involved in an ambitious restoration project. If you don’t see a role here that suits you we are always happy to hear from people who feel they have a special skill-set or knowledge that would be valuable to the garden.

Visitor welcome and engagement volunteer

Provide a warm welcome and exchange with all visitors when they enter the garden, and answer any immediate questions they may have. You will also give visitors the information, about the dams project and the current works. Be a key point of contact.

Crayfish management volunteer (Tuesday and/or Friday team)

Assisting in catching, removing and dispatching the invasive American signal crayfish from the lakes. Contribute to crayfish research, the preservation of the historic lakes and dams and gain ecology and conservation knowledge.

Garden interpretation volunteer

Visitors to Prior Park throughout the duration of the dams project will have a very different experience of the garden to usual and we expect that many of them will have a lot of questions. You will be a wealth of dams project information. We’ll make sure you’re up to date and all clued up on all aspects of the works and it’ll be your job to inspire our visitors with all of this knowledge.

Garden tour guide volunteer

As a garden tour guide you will engage with visitors inspiring them with the history of the garden, our ongoing restoration work and the importance of our current dams project.

Food and beverage volunteer

Could you imagine a stroll around the garden without a nice hot drink and a cake? As a food and beverage volunteer you will work in the Tea Shed that is moving to the Cabinet at the top of the garden, delivering exceptional service to our visitors as they enjoy the light refreshments on offer.

Visitor experience volunteer

Help visitors understand why we take care of special places, discover more and make the most of their visit to Prior Park. Use your design and creative skills to enhance each visit through clear, informative and inspiring signage and interpretation. This role will involve time in the office and some computer work.

Maintenance volunteer

Supporting our busy team with general maintenance around the garden. If you are a dab hand with a hammer and paint brush and enjoy working outside in a beautiful setting come and join our friendly team.

Events volunteer

Help to deliver our family events, especially Wild Wednesdays on the Bath Skyline.

More roles will become available in the summer once the project gets underway.
