Group visits to Red House

Tiles in the Pilgrim's Rest at Red House

Commissioned by William Morris in 1859 and designed by Philip Webb, Red House is of international significance in the history of domestic architecture and garden design.

Tours of Red House

The interior of Red House is cosy and intimate, therefore we run guided tours for both our daily visitors and our group visits, which allows everyone to learn as much about Red House as they can during their visit.

Due to the small size of some rooms and the delicate nature of some of our floors, tours are limited to 10 people, and each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Scheduling your group

We can only take group bookings on Wednesdays between March and October, with a maximum capacity of 2 tours per Wednesday: that's a 20 persons maximum per booking. If your group contains more than 20 people, you will need to split your visit across multiple Wednesdays.

You can choose either a morning or an afternoon schedule, which look like this:

Option 1:
10am – Arrive onsite
10:15am – 11am – first guided tour of 10 people
10:45am – 11:30am second guided tour of 10 people
11:30pm – 12pm – access to garden and toilets
12pm - group leaves.

Option 2:
1pm – Arrive onsite
1:15pm – 2pm – first guided tour of 10 people
1:45pm – 2:30pm – second guided tour of 10 people
2:30 – 3pm – access to gardens and toilets
3pm – group leaves.

In the mean-time

While not on a tour, visitors are welcome to explore our spectacular garden and our Second Hand Bookshop. However, please note that there is no indoor space to wait in at Red House, so please dress appropriately for the weather.

At Red House we do not have catering, retail or parking facilities. The closest car park, including coaches, is at Danson House (DA6 8HL) approximately 1 mile away and is run by Bexley Council. Please book your coach parking through them. It is not advisable for coaches to pause outside Red House as it is a very small street; we ask that all vehicles are courteous towards our neighbours on Red House Lane.

Costs and Booking

We offer free entry to Red House for both National Trust Members and Art Fund Card holders. Each member and Art Pass holder needs to bring a valid card with them on the day of the visit. There is an entry charge for non-members of £10.00 per adult, or a group rate of £9.50 per adult for 15 non-members or more paying in a single transaction.

All admission costs must be paid in full by card on the day of the booking.

If you are interested in booking a group visit to Red House then please email with the details of your group.

There are no exceptions to the criteria in this article, and we reserve the right to refuse group bookings that our capacity cannot accomodate. Please always check with the Red House team before committing a group visit to your own members.
