Relax in our cosy cafe at Red House

View of the Scullery cafe at Red House

The Scullery Café at Red House is the perfect place to unwind with a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes, snacks, and light lunches.

Historic, yet artistic

The Scullery Café is set inside the old kitchen rooms used by William and Jane Morris, and is painted in the same mustard yellow they decorated with. There’s further seating in the historic butler’s pantry, and even more in our orchard garden.

Inside the fireplace you will find our modern art piece “Tending the Flame”, where craftsman Hugh Miller has recreated the Morrises historic range for us.

A friendly and accessible place

We want everyone to have a great time in our cafe, with added features such as:

  • A high-chair available for visitors
  • Soya milk on the side at no extra cost
  • At least one vegetarian option guaranteed
  • Decaf tea and coffee
  • All sandwiches made fresh on the premises
  • A friendly team who are happy to help

The café itself is on the ground floor of the house, at the back of the building. There is one small step to get inside and we have ramps that we can provide to help with wheelchairs and buggies.

Kitchen Garden

Red House prides itself on trying to be as green as possible. Part of the garden is allocated for the growing of vegetables and herbs that we use in the kitchen. Food waste from the café goes straight into the garden compost, and helps provide good soil nutrition, creating a kitchen garden recycle plan that sees almost nothing go to waste.

Picnics

The Red House garden is an oasis on the outskirts of the metropolis: a great place for a picnic! Bring a blanket with you or take a seat at one of our garden picnic benches and have lunch in the fresh air.
