Scullery cafe

Let us take you back in time to the home of William and Jane Morris. The Scullery Café is set inside the original kitchens used by their household, and is painted the same mustard yellow with which they chose to decorate it. Our warming cafe is the ideal place to absorb the house and all its stories over a warming cup of coffee. Relax yourself with some fresh ingredients from the kitchen garden or a slice of cake or two.

Something for Everyone

We would like everyone to have a great time and for the Scullery cafe to be enjoyed by all who visit. We currently offer for families a high chair and children's food and drink options. We also have (subject to availability) soya milk options, vegetarian/vegan options and decaf tea and coffee. All our sandwiches are made fresh on site and we have a selection of Clipper fruit teas as well.

Whats on the menu?

At Red House we offer a range of cakes, sandwiches and light meals that changes through the year, making good use of seasonal produce. Our coffee is freshly brewed from the bean and we've always got a stock of ice creams for that sweet-toothed visitor, even in the winter! Check out our sample menu as a guide (subject to change on the day) to see what we have on offer.

Ethical Sources

We champion a sustainable food system that supports people, animals, the environment and local economies. All of the meat we use is Red Tractor standard and all our eggs are free range and certified by the RSPCA. Tuna is pole line caught from sustainable fishing and the produce that cannot be found in the kitchen garden is sourced from tenant farmers from National Trust sites.

Kitchen Garden at Red House

The kitchen garden at Red House

The Scullery Cafe is proud to serve seasonally grown vegetables and fruits using the fantastic produce from the kitchen garden grown right here at Red House. We’ve recently grown our own herbs too and will continue expanding our range of produce through 2020 offering you the freshest ingredients. Apples and quinces from our Orchard garden are used for our annual Hog's Hole Apple Weekend event in October too.

Nothing goes to waste at Red House

We are passionate about reducing our carbon foot print, and we try to recycle or compost as much waste from the kitchen as we can. A hot composting bin processes all our food waste, producing liquid which when diluted can go straight onto the garden as plant feed. Napkins and blue roll are also on a 3 year composting cycle. Coffee grounds are used to deter slugs and snails from eating plants without using harmful pesticides. Coffee grounds also provide essential nutrients of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus needed to help plants grow. Egg shells are baked to get rid of bacteria, and then are placed on plant beds to help deter pests.
