Volunteer to join the team at Shalford Mill

Volunteers sitting out beside the river

A place like Shalford Mill needs a team of committed volunteers to make it happen. Luckily, Shalford has just that - a small team of people who muck in with all the jobs that need doing to keep it up and running. If you'd like to join the team, you'll find a bit more about it here.

We want you

We are a small, happy band of volunteers at Shalford Mill and we'd love you to come and join us. The mill is only open on Wednesdays and Sundays and there are either two or three of us around each open day. We generally give guided tours as the mill is only accessible by tour, but we also get involved in the wide variety of events that go on throughout the year.
If that sounds like something you might be interested in email Fiona Exall or the River Wey or download a copy of our volunter role profile below for further information.

Meet Sue

"Volunteering at an industrial place was something that appealed to me. And now, five years on, my role has developed in a way that I couldn't possibly have imagined. I lead walks, recruit new members, lead tours and help out with events. I also wrote a guidebook to the mill that, to my surprise, the National Trust has published." Sue Kirkland

Meet Brian

"I have been a volunteer here for ten years. It's a fascinating property and I enjoy telling the visitors the history of it. I am joined by a great group of fellow volunteers which makes it a joy to come and work here." Brian Thornton-Allen

What can you do at Shalford?

Volunteers at Shalford are part of a team. Everyone helps out with whatever needs doing, from leading tours to cleaning the mill for opening. Some run children's events, others lead guided walks, some make models.
