Elves and the Shoemaker

Elf objects made by Ross Nicholson

The helpful elves from the classic folktale The Elves and the Shoemaker have visited 500 year old Sutton House. Rediscover the enchanting story as you make your way around the rooms of the oldest house in Hackney, and keep your eyes peeled for traces they have left behind.

“The shoemaker and his wife waited and waited, and finally they saw two tiny elves wearing only rags run cross the table and begin to work on the shoes.”

To accompany the London College of Fashion’s exhibition ‘Footnotes’, artist and prop-maker Ross Nicholson has produced a series of items that the Elves have left behind on their visit to Sutton House. Follow our trail with your own souvenir story book and if you look carefully, you might even see an elf.

The Elves and the Shoemaker runs throughout the school summer holidays, from the 21st July until the 2nd September, Monday- Sunday 12:00 pm- 5:00pm
