Deep Listening Drop-In
A chance to join an informal session hunting for hidden soundscapes, as our volunteers tune in to the underwater life with hydrophones, and zoom in on birds and insects with a parabolic mic. No need to book, just show up!
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Deep Listening Sessions are part of our ‘Listen to the Voices of the Fen’ trail, created by acclaimed sound artist and composer Kathy Hinde.
These informal sessions invite you to listen more closely, to take time and really tune in to the sounds of our shared environment. Using hydrophones we can hear sounds from underwater not normally audible to us, whether fish, invertebrates or even plants. Using a parabolic mic picks up other natural sounds bringing them much closer to us. Hosted on various Thursdays throughout August to accompany the larger trail, these volunteer-led drop-in sessions can be participated with, listening to hear what the equipment can find under and above the water.
The Listen to the Voices of the Fen sound sculpture trail is open from 19 July to 28 September, a new way to experience the Sedge Fen walks. The project is supported with funding through National Heritage Lottery Fund Arts Council England.
