Discover the art of sumi-e (Japanese brush painting) and learn how to paint seasonal subjects in an expressive style using sumi ink and bamboo brushes. Learn from local artist and experienced teacher Ula Fung The class begins with an introduction to the materials and a demonstration for you to learn from. The workshop will be split into multiple sessions, each starting with a teacher demonstration. Each time, you’ll explore a different theme and practice new techniques and brushstrokes. The first section will be simpler, with the difficulty increasing gradually as you build confidence. We’ll cover seasonal topics from traditional Japanese art as well as subjects inspired by Tatton Park and its Japanese Garden. A variety of painting materials will be provided, chosen to suit the theme of the day.y.

This workshop is suitable for everybody, whether you're an aspiring artist looking for a new challenge or you've always wanted to learn how to paint, you'll love this creative workshop experience.

Knowledge required: Beginner friendly - all levels welcome.

Materials (all provided): Sumi ink and Japanese paint on Mulberry Paper or boards.

What you'll get: All of the equipment and materials needed for your class and protective equipment such as aprons.

Barn Rooms in the Stableyard which will be signposted on the day.

What to bring and wear

Comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little paint on & a carrying bag for take your artworks home.

Accessibility

The Barn Rooms are a short walk from the main car park. There are spaces close to the Barn Rooms for use by blue badge holders. There are some uneven surfaces and historic cobbles in and around the stableyard. Please note that this workshop takes place on the first floor of a historic barn, with no lift access.
