Viking Life

Join Viking warlord Harald Bloodaxe and his loyal thrall at Tata's Tun to learn about life in Viking England.

  • Booking essential

On a perilous journey from Yorvik, the Viking capital of Northumbria, to the old Roman fortress of Deva, Harald and his followers have made camp on their way to meet the powerful Warrior Queen of Mercia, Æthelflæd, daughter of Alfred the Great. Now, they need your help. Become one of Harald’s Shield Warriors or Shield Maidens and step into the world of the Vikings.

Through an engaging workshop and a series of hands‑on activities, you will discover Viking beliefs, skills, and daily life in the atmospheric surroundings of Tatton Park’s Old Hall. Are you brave enough to join the Vikings?

This immersive event is recommended for families with children aged 7–11 years. Each child must be supervised by an adult and everyone attending the event should purchase a ticket. Please be aware that the Old Hall is an unheated, period building, so to maximise your enjoyment, please ensure you are dressed for the outdoors. Includes: Workshop, Parkland Vehicle Entry & Old Hall Entry
