We believe Tintagel should be open and accessible for all. Read more to discover how you can best access this special place.

We are committed to making sure that Tintagel Old Post Office is equally accessible for all our visitors. Whilst the wonderfuly wonky house is a two-storey Grade I listed structure, and the garden on a couple of levels, we've been taking steps to ensure as many people as possible can appreciate the long and varied history of Tintagel Olf Post Office.

This web page is designed to help support you ahead of visiting Tintagel Old Post Office by providing information on how to access the different areas of the estate, and to make the most of your visit.

We always welcome feedback and suggestions which can be emailed to tintageloldpo@nationaltrust.org.uk

Access overview

  • Not a spirit level in sight! The original footprint of Tintage Old Post Office dates to 1380, right in the middle of the Medieval period, and the house was remodelled in subsequent centuries. This has resulted in uneven floors, steps, low beams and narrow doorways in places. Due to the small windows, light levels are low at certain times of the day/year.
  • There is no car parking at Tintagel Old Post Office, but there are many pay and display car parks on site. The nearest is directly opposite at the Kind Arthur's Arms car park.
  • We recommend sturdy footwear with a good grip due to the uneven nature of historic surfaces and slates of the back garden.
  • There are no visitor toilets on site - the nearest toilets - including an accessible toilet - are located in Trevena Square approximately 50m from the Old Post Office (for a small charge)
  • Assistance dogs are welcome across the property.
  • A portable hearing loop is available at the Post Room counter upon request.
  • There is a portable wheelchair ramp that allows wheelchair users to access all the rooms of the first floor and both sections of the main lawn in the cottage garden.
