Evening walk for women: Reclaim the 'Wild' Night

Help us to enjoy nature together, to challenge the fear that keeps people from exploring after dark and create a countryside where everyone feels welcome.

  • Booking essential
  • Free event (admission applies)

This gentle, women-only walk will be about 1.5 hours long on mostly level terrain from Bovey Tracey into the Parke Estate. We want to challenge the fear that keeps people from exploring and create a countryside where everyone feels welcome, as part of the Reclaim the Night movement.

Many women and girls feel that the outdoors is off-limits after dark, and with shorter winter days this can mean people stop going outside to walk or run. This event is about raising awareness, showing solidarity and helping everyone enjoy the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature. Let’s not stop doing what we enjoy just because there is less light.

This is a free event but booking is essential using the email address parkeevents@nationaltrust.org.uk

What is Reclaim the Night? It was started in the 70s by the women’s liberation movement. It’s typically marked by marches or protests and was a response to the instruction for women to stay in after dark following fatal attacks on women at the time. Here we honour the movement but focus on celebrating women, coming together and continuing to enjoy nature and exercise even through the winter.
