The rugged coastline of Salcombe, with views of the Atlantic ocean, hidden sandy coves and stunning countryside, makes this area perfect for a coastal adventure. The nearby National Trust car parks are the ideal starting point. Find out parking costs and how to find each of the car parks.

Where can I park to visit Salcombe countryside?

There are five car parks within the countryside area of Salcombe, all of which are ideally based for a great day out. You can park at:

  • East Soar
  • Bolberry Down
  • Mill Bay
  • Snapes Point
  • Overbeck's Garden

How much does it cost to park?

National Trust members can scan to park for free. Every scan and every penny directly funds our work to care for the Salcombe countryside and coastline.

For non-members, the charges are:

  • Snape's Point - £2 all day
  • East Soar and Bolberry Down - £3 all day
  • Mill Bay has seasonal tariffs - £3 all day during winter months (1 Oct - 31 March), £6 all day during summer (1 April - 30 Sept)
  • Overbeck's Garden has seasonal tarrifs - £3 all day during winter months (- Nov - 28 Feb), £6 all day during main season (1 March - 31 Oct)

Charges apply at all times.

Pay for parking via the JustPark app

If you don’t carry cash with you, all of our car parks have the option to pay via the JustPark app. To do this, you must first download the app to your phone which then allows you to pay for your parking remotely. You can find more information and download the app here: JustPark - The Parking App

We recommend downloading and setting up the app before you head out in case connection is poor on location. The codes for the car parks are:

  • East Soar - 80575
  • Bolberry Down - 80516
  • Mill Bay - 80628
  • Snape's Point - 80675
  • Overbeck's Garden - 80638

Don't always believe the satnav

Please note that in rural locations postcodes often cover a wide area so don't always believe the satnav. Look out for the brown tourist attraction signs with the National Trust oakleaf symbol.

Mill Bay National Trust car park

A popular car park, Mill Bay fills up quickly in the summer months. The narrow lane to access the car park gets easily congested and can present serious problems for residents and emergency vehicles. We recommend arriving early or later in the day to find a space. There is an alternative car park at Gara Rock (not National Trust).

Parking in and around Salcombe countryside

These roads get particular busy during the spring and summer months and bank holidays and parking in roadside verges and laybyes in and around Salcombe causes access problems for people who live there, including farmers and potentially emergency vehicles.

We’d like to ask everyone to do what they can to help ease the pressure of parking in the countryside.

Three ways you could help the parking

  1. Ask: could a fire engine get past?
If you’re trying to park and you’re not confident a fire engine or tractor and trailer could easily pass, please find an alternative place to park. There are National Trust car parks and alternative car parks in Salcombe.
  2. Plan ahead
Plan your trip ahead and arrive early for a better chance of accessing a local car park.
  3. Go greener
There are seasonal ferry services in Salcombe, providing a relaxed and scenic way to visit the countryside area. Why not take the East Portlemouth ferry to visit Mill Bay? Or hop on the Whitesands Quay, Salcombe to South Sands for Overbeck's Garden.

No Overnight Parking

We don't allow overnight parking due to the impact on nature and wildlife, staff resource and visitors.
