We are one of the places featured in series four of BBC Two’s Hidden Treasures of the National Trust.

In the programme, you’re invited inside Hardy’s House, Max Gate to see our team and specialist conservators at work, carefully restoring a beautiful commemorative sundial. Inscribed with the intriguing Latin question Quid de Nocte? – What of the night? – it’s a fascinating reminder of Hardy’s curiosity and creativity, and of the care taken to protect his home for future generations.

The episode also takes you out into the wider landscape that shaped Hardy’s life, writing and deep love of nature. From the countryside surrounding his birthplace to the iconic Cerne Abbas Giant, you’ll see rangers and volunteers working together to care for these extraordinary places and reveal the stories they hold.
