Festival of Archaeology - Pottery making and artefact show and tell

Callings all mini archaeologists'! Join us for a weekend of ancient craft making and artefact show and tell with a real-life archaeologist.

  • Booking not needed
  • Admission applies

Take part in the UK's biggest annual celebration of archaeology, which this year, is themed all around nature.

The wind-carved landscape of the Downs, set within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is renowned for its ancient history.

This July, we'll be joined by Dr Wendy Morrison, Archaeologist for Chilterns Heritage & Archaeology Partnership who will be hosting hands-on pottery making workshops where children can get creative. They will get to make and decorate their own ancient 'pinch pot', using air drying clay and natural decorative materials like feathers and flowers, which they can take home and keep.

Wendy will also be bringing along some mysterious artefacts such as a Bronze Age Carnyx - the first to be used on the Downs for over 2,000 years!
