Sandham in 9 Objects

Join us to explore nine objects from Sir Stanley's Paintings, revealed one at a time through a series of scheduled guided moments.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

The Steward will focus on a different object each month, uncovering how Spencer transformed everyday items into powerful carriers of meaning. From a photograph of Hilda Carline, his wife, to a canvas water bucket, touch and understand the meaning these objects had to Stanley Spencer. There will be a different object each month so please ask the volunteer to explain the object, share its historical background and where it can be found in the paintings and the impact it had on Spencer. Visit once or return throughout the series to experience a new object and a new perspective each time.
