Chartwell's Storybook Christmas
Step into a storybook world at Chartwell this Christmas with an opulently decorated house and a magical outdoor trail.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This year at Chartwell we have been celebrating literature in memory of Sir Winston Churchill receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. At Christmastime we will explore the favourite childhood books of one of his beloved daughters, Mary Soames, who spent an idyllic childhood in the grounds of Chartwell.
"At the end of each of these busily and happily occupied days came an evening ritual - reading aloud. This was a treasured highlight of my routine, and my greatest punishment was to be deprived of this great treat." Mary Soames.
Chartwell house will be decorated for a family Christmas in the 1930s with nods to the world of children's literature as if seeing the home through the eyes of Mary's imagination.
Then make your way down to the Walled Garden to meet characters from classic children's books and plan the ultimate Christmas dinner party. Trail is £3 with a prize.
Please note: The House is open 12-3pm. The house operates on a timed ticket system and is subject to availability. The gardens, estate walks, and outdoor trail are open 10am-4pm.
