D-Day at Chartwell: Unfolding Operation Overlord
Join us as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
"This vast operation is undoubtedly the most complicated and difficult that has ever occurred” – Sir Winston Churchill, speaking about the D-Day landings.
Commemorate the 80th anniversary year of the D-Day landings, at the great wartime leader, Sir Winston Churchill’s family home.
Venture on an emotional journey as you enter the house and discover the central role Churchill played in the famous Second World War operation on 6 June 1944, known as Operation Overlord. The landings marked the start of the Allied invasion of Europe, with troops dropped on the beaches of Normandy before making their way deep into enemy territory. As you make your way through the house, look out for more objects in the collection related to the events of D-Day, such as a cartoon watercolour map of the Mulberry Harbour. Other highlights include a British army helmet, a relief model of Mulberry Harbour B and models of the ships used on D-Day.
