The South Cottage 1936

The South Cottage reopens for an immersive 'living museum' experience on select days in January and February 2026.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Please note that daily opening will be dependent on volunteer availability. While we aim to open on a daily basis during January and February, this may not always be possible.

Immerse yourself in a day in the life of Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson in 1936 - set against the backdrop of the Abdication Crisis, significant 20th century politics, Sissinghurst's garden design, and personal loss.

Entry Information:

Entry is free with standard admission.

The Cottage will operate on a free flow system on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (11am - 3:30pm, last entry 3:15pm).

Only 12 visitors are allowed inside at any given time. There are entry slots every 30 minutes. If the Cottage is at capacity, you will be given a bookmark with a later entry time on it. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, free tours will be offered every 30 minutes at: * 11:30am * 12pm * 12:30pm * 1:45pm * 2:15pm * 2:45pm (last entry)

On tour days, the Cottage is closed between 1pm - 1:45pm.

To book onto one of these tours, please head down to the Cottage to secure your ticket in person on the day of your visit. Booking is not available in advance or online.
