Easter egg hunt at South Foreland Lighthouse

This spring, treat the whole family to our fun, science-inspired activities on our Easter trail.

Make your way along the trail and find nature-inspired activities for the whole family. The trail takes place between 29 March and 14 April 2023 from 11 am to 5 pm, with the last entry at 4.30 pm, so come along and explore the beautiful grounds of South Foreland Lighthouse. Prices are £3 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears, and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg**. Both eggs are made from Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa. This year our Easter trail will guide you through a range of fun, science-inspired activities, held in the historic and awe-inspiring grounds of our Victorian lighthouse. The trail is suitable for all ages, although young children may need some help.

The basics


The event is aimed at families but everyone is welcome.

Meeting point

Buy your trail kit at the South Foreland Lighthouse shop, which is in the small white building opposite the toilet block, near the double gate.

What to bring and wear

The trail is mostly outdoors. Although most of the lighthouse grounds are grassed, at this time of year, the ground may be soft, so please wear suitable clothing and shoes.


The trail is step-free and some parts of the trail will be on grass or pebbles. If you are a blue badge holder, please telephone the lighthouse on 01304 853281 for advice before travelling.

South Foreland Lighthouse is approx. 50 minutes' walk from the car park along a surfaced path. Entry to the lighthouse grounds and tea room is free for all during normal opening hours. If you wish to tour the lighthouse tower, normal admission charges apply, or free of charge to National Trust members. Family-friendly tours will be available. Dogs are welcome in the lighthouse grounds, but please be aware that there is a greater risk of chocolate (which can be toxic to dogs) being dropped, so please supervise your dog. Water bowls are provided. Finished your trail? Weather permitting, why not play one of our outdoor games, fly a kite, or treat yourself to a well-earned tea, coffee, and snack in our tearoom?
