Bioblitz: a biodiversity survey

Join our Bioblitz event and help us find and identify the many species of plants, animals, fungi and other organisms that live on the White Cliffs of Dover.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

We need your help to discover the diversity of our wildlife on the clifftops, finding and identifying as many species as possible. We invite you to become a wildlife explorer for the day and join our friendly, like-minded team on gently-paced walks. This is a 'drop-in' event, with walks and activities starting and finishing throughout the day. Our experienced guides will help you identify and catalogue the plants and animals you find. You may even find a rare one! We know from photographs and anecdotal evidence that there’s a host of wildlife on top of the cliffs - help us to record it. You'll also learn about the plants and animals you find. The event is suitable for kids and grown-ups, families and friends, beginners and experts – we’ve something for everyone - and it's dog-friendly too. There will be tables at our Biodiversity tent, with books and samples to examine. There will also be make-and-take fun nature craft activities and face painting.

The basics

Suitability

Supervised children are welcome.

Meeting point

Follow the signs to our Biodiversity event tent in our car park, CT16 1HJ, www.what3words.com/frames.sayings.begins. Normal parking charges apply – National Trust members can park for free.

What to bring and wear

You can purchase food and drink at the Visitor Centre. The weather can change quickly on the clifftops, so please wear suitable clothing.

Accessibility

Guided walks will leave the paths to explore the wildlife on the downland and clifftops. Some terrain will be rough grass, with moderate slopes. Walks may not be suitable for those with impaired mobility, wheelchair or mobility scooter users. Guided searches and walks will last 60-90 minutes with stops for wildlife and plant investigation. There'll be activities at the tent, which is level access.

Other

This is a free drop-in event and there is no need to book. Normal parking charges apply - National Trust members can park for free. The event is dog- and child-friendly, but we need to disturb the wildlife as little as possible and some walks may pass close to unfenced sections of the cliff edge. We ask that dogs be kept on leads and children be supervised when on the walks. There may be a small charge for some of the additional activities, to cover the cost of materials.
