The Nature Writing Day at Sandscale Haws is a unique opportunity for writers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Duddon estuary. The event is led by author Karen Lloyd and offers a chance to explore the area's rich wildlife and natural surroundings. Participants will have the chance to engage in writing prompts, enjoy an interpretive walk by expert National Trust wardens, and experience the thrill of witnessing birds coming in on a rising tide.
The workshop is designed for writers of all abilities, including those with no previous experience, and is a perfect blend of education and adventure.
Karen is an experienced teacher (Arvon Foundation, Moniack Mhor) and author of Earthworks: Land and Nature in Uncertain Times and The Gathering Tide: A Journey Around the Edgelands of Morecambe Bay amongst other titles.
The day will feature introductory readings, an interpretive walk by Sandscale’s expert wardens, writing prompts and plenty of time to explore this incredible area.

The basics

Some sand dunes have steep slopes and there is uneven terrain in places. Walking is required to get to our work site. We will mainly be walking on sandy paths though the dunes. The area we will be working in may be uneven, possibly muddy and there may be brambly vegetation.

- What to bring and wear
Bring plenty of warm, waterproof clothing, outdoor footwear, a packed lunch and flask, mat/chair, notebook, pens, binoculars and hand lens if you have them and a sense of adventure
