Common Farm Open Day
The event offers a unique opportunity to learn how the National Trust is balancing farming with nature conservation.
- Booking essential
- Free event
Common Farm is an ex-intensive dairy farm just outside of Windermere that has been managed in hand by the National Trust since 2020. With the aim of supporting people and nature through habitat restoration and responsible grazing management, a number of exciting projects are underway, such as wood pasture and wetland creation, local provenance orchard planting and public access improvements.
Enjoy a guided farm tour led by staff, a nature based activity for children, and time to chat with those involved in managing the land over a hot drink.
Visitors will also have the chance to see the farm’s Albion cattle, a critically endangered native British breed. Once thought to have become extinct in the 1960s, Albion cattle are now the focus of dedicated conservation efforts.
