'Common Threads' Virtual Tour and Artists Talk (Heritage Open Days)
Step into 575 Wandsworth Road from the comfort of your home and meet local and global artists and researchers as they reflect on their connections with the textiles displayed in the house.
- Booking essential
- Free event
For Heritage Open Days we are hosting a very special virtual tour and artist talk as part of 'Common Threads', our year-long community arts programme drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of textiles at 575 Wandsworth Road including Turkish kilim rugs and cushions, wall hangings and runners from the Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indian bedspreads and an ikat robe from Uzbekistan.
Showcasing the diverse cultural narratives woven into fabrics and delving into the cultural significance of this collection, we'll be celebrating the histories, techniques, ideas, and people connected with them and reflecting on how they continue to influence our lives today.
This virtual event will include an introduction to the house and our community arts programme, Common Threads. We'll then take you on a virtual exploration of each room, finishing with an artists talk and panel discussion, including internationally based artist Liliya Lifanova who will be sharing her reflections in taking part in our first ever virtual residency.
This virtual tour and talk last approximately one hour.
