Wassail your way through the orchard's gifts, 27 Jan, 1.30pm
The orchard in Morden Hall Park is inviting you to discover and celebrate its corner of fruitiness in the middle of London.
- Booking essential
Join us in January to help revive the ancient tradition of Wassail where we will bless our orchard for the coming year's crop.
Wassail involves a procession to the orchard, making plenty of noise to scare off unfriendly spirits and attract good ones with offerings of cider and toast (some say that this is to attract a robin, which embodies the good spirits).
Special guests will lead us through the music and songs for this old tradition. We’ll make a headdress to wear and design a wand to bring good luck, using natural materials, bells, ribbons and crepe paper. Bring your own hat to decorate if you prefer. We’ll end the event with a glass of cider-based Wassail drink (or apple juice) by our ancient mulberry tree and make a toast to the apple harvest we’ll be enjoying in the autumn.
Come with family and friends, to make some noise, music and magic! Let's scare away unwanted spirits so there can be an epic crop of apples this coming year! Bring noisy instruments, pots, pans and wooden spoons! Dress up! There may be dancing!
