World of Wandle Sewing Project
Calling all young creatives (ages 16-25)! Join us for an exciting six-day textile workshop where you'll create stunning artworks inspired by the rare chalk stream habitat of the River Wandle.
- Booking essential
- Free event
This project explores the rare chalk stream habitat of the Wandle, its beauty and vulnerability, using upcycled plastics and oil-based fabrics.
What will you be doing?
Over the six days of the project you will make four embroidery hoops exploring the beauty and vulnerability of the river. We will look at key features of a chalk stream and use a variety of imaginative techniques and materials to recreate them.
Do I need to be able to sew?
This project is suitable for young people with a love of the Wandle and a flair for creativity! Basic handsewing skills will be required - participants will need to be able to thread a needle and do a basic running stitch. No specialist sewing skills are required - this project is focussed on using textiles in an imaginative way rather than refining techniques.
How does it work?
The project will involve six four-house sessions running Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August then a final session on Monday August.
Your creations will be showcased as a central feature in the World of Wandle Exhibition at the Kiln Room this summer.
How much does it cost?
This is a FREE activity.
