The Nest - Guided bird sketching (Session three)

A new gathering place for bird lovers. Join us at Cherryburn, birthplace of Thomas Bewick, for a series of events celebrating birds, nature and the joy of looking up.

  • Booking essential

Join us for a special programme of monthly birding events from July to October, held on selected Saturdays at Cherryburn. Each session begins with an engaging workshop, talk, or demonstration, followed by two hours of exclusive access to the garden while it is closed to the public.

Session three is bird sketching

Join local bird and nature artist Johnnie Foker for a relaxed, guided sketching session in the beautiful surroundings of Cherryburn. Take inspiration from the garden and its wildlife, just as Bewick once did, while learning helpful techniques and tips from an experienced artist. You’re welcome to bring a photo for inspiration, or work from the birds you see around you. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with your own sketch to take home. Whether you’re new to drawing or building your skills, this is a welcoming session for all abilities

After the workshop, enjoy exclusive access to the garden. Relax in a deckchair, listen to birdsong, continue to sketch, or simply unwind with a picnic and meet fellow bird enthusiasts.

• 10am – Arrival • 10.30am – Workshop begins • 12.00 – Workshop ends • 12.00–2pm – Enjoy the garden at your leisure

Event line-up: • July: Bird ringing demonstration in the garden with David Leat • August: “How to Garden for Wildlife and Birds” with John Grundy (Wilderness Tamed) • September: Bird sketching session with local artist Johnnie Foker • October: “The Shorebirds of Long Nanny” with Northumberland Coast Ranger James Porteus
