When the Lost God Speaks was inspired by the existence of a now-lost painting of Bacchus on the ceiling here in the Saloon. Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, festivity, madness and theatre, seems a very fitting patron of the ‘Gay Delavals’. Inspired by the grandeur and history of Seaton Delaval Hall and the character of Bacchus as he appeared in Greek and Roman myths, Catch The Sparrow imagined him speaking to visitors of the hall today: a narrator older than time itself, giving his own account on the history of the place.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Catch The Sparrow (singer-songwriter Suze Terwisscha van Scheltinga) initially studied to be a jazz vocalist before her love for folk music brought her to the North East. She quickly became a fixture on the Newcastle folk scene, performing extensively throughout the region.

With the release of her first EP Winter Flowers (2022) she established herself as a performer and songwriter. Follow-up album No Sweeter Sorrow, arranged and performed in collaboration with fiddle player and singer Sam Baxter, was released earlier this year.
