Vanbrugh 300 celebration weekend

Join us for the start of the celebrations of the life and work of Sir John Vanbrugh, who died 300 years ago this year. This weekend sees the start, with a weekend of activities for all to enjoy.

Presented by The Georgian Group with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, activities this weekend include lively storyteller performances, creative, drop-in workshops in activities including paper costume making, creating Vanbrugh style cardboard buildings, and the opportunity to share in a mini performance based on Vanbrugh's restoration comedies. More details coming soon. All activities free with your membership or standard admission and no booking required.

In 2026 we’ll be celebrating Seaton Delaval Hall’s architect, Sir John Vanbrugh. Led by The Georgian Group, we’ll join five of his most significant creations for a year of events commemorating the man known as the ‘rockstar of the English Baroque’.
