Seaton Delaval Hall and Old Hartley: Delaval Discoveries Wider Estate Walks
Join us for our regular wider estate walks to discover more about the Delavals and their local interests. Take in delightful views across the landscape and find out more about the area's history.

This walk explores life in the Dene approximately 150 years ago as well as exploring the wildlife who live there and the work today of community groups to encourage nature.
You’ll walk up the railway bridge abutments and discover what happened to the old line, see evidence of the old First World War army camp including the water tower, latrine block and lookout. Enjoy the lighthouse views and island history before heading back towards Seaton Sluice harbour and back up to hall.
This circular walk is approximately 8 km (5 miles) and lasts approximately three hours, including time for regular stopping. Admission to property not included.

Please meet at Visitor Welcome in the main visitor car park.
- What to bring and wear
Please wear weather-appropriate, outdoor footwear. Heels are not recommended for this uneven and often muddy terrain. Paths can become waterlogged in places; waterproofs recommended in wet weather.
- Accessibility
This walk includes steps, uneven terrain and stiles and is therefore unsuitable for those requiring access support.
- Other
This walk takes in farmland where livestock grazes. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate any dogs, including access dogs. Tickets are for wider estate walk only and do not provide admission into Seaton Delaval Hall.
