North East in Blossom 2025: Blooming Sounds exhibition
Listen to nature soundscapes recorded in Washington by local primary school pupils, and see a showcase of the project the pupils took part in from start to finish.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This spring, pupils from Barmston Primary School, Biddick Primary School, Blackfell Primary School and Usworth Colliery Primary school took part in audio and deep-listening workshops with sound artist, Grace Stubbings (We Make Sound), as part of the National Trust’s Festival of Blossom.
Pupils were encouraged to tune into the sounds of nature more deeply than they had before, whilst learning how to operate the audio equipment. Throughout the workshops, the pupils also took part in nature-based sensory activities, further deepening their exploration of nature.
The exhibition features the pupils’ nature sound recordings, and interviews with the young people about what nature means to them and why it matters.
Delivered in partnership with We Make Sound, Washington Heritage Partnership and Durham Wildlife Trust. Festival of Blossom is supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery.
Free, normal admission applies.
