Memories of Washington Old Hall: Seventy Years, One Community

Connect with local heritage and add your voice to the story. A pop-up display marks 70 years since Washington Old Hall's refurbishment and opening to visitors.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

September 2025 marked 70 years since significant refurbishment of Washington Old Hall made it possible to welcome visitors.

We've gathered a selection of images and audio recordings made since 1955, which highlight key moments in the Hall’s recent history. Featuring the Princess Royal’s visit in the 1970s, and local people’s special memories of the Hall and the surrounding Washington Village.

After exploring the pop-up display, you're invited to reflect on and share your own memories of the Old Hall and its grounds by writing a ‘postcard from the past’. If you choose, you can add your postcard to the display, making your unique voice part of the story.

With thanks to Friends of Washington Old Hall and support from Washington Heritage Partnership.

Free, normal admission applies.
