Immerse yourself in the traditional craft of willow basketry during this two-day workshop, where you will create a sturdy and practical willow log basket while gaining a deeper understanding of the materials and techniques used by basket makers.

Participants will learn how to select and prepare willow for weaving, exploring the characteristics of different varieties and understanding how material choice influences the finished basket. You will be guided through the process of preparing rods for weaving and constructing a strong basket suitable for carrying logs, turf or other household items.

A variety of techniques will be introduced, including constructing the base, pairing, waling, randing, shaping, and learning how to include incorporated handles and border work. Throughout the two days, there will be opportunities to develop confidence in handling willow, refine weaving skills, and learn the principles that underpin strong and durable basket making.

Suitable for beginners with patience and enthusiasm, as well as those looking to build on existing basketry experience, this workshop provides a rewarding introduction to traditional willow weaving. By the end of the course, you will leave with a beautiful handmade log basket and the knowledge and skills to continue your basketry journey.
