Get ready for a summer of imagination, adventure and hands-on discovery at Castle Ward. From 11 July to 24 August 2026, families are invited to explore a series of immersive play zones spread across the beautiful grounds of this historic estate.

Escape to Castle Ward for a Summer of Play! From 11 July to 24 August, children, families and the young at heart can embrace the spirit of play across our estate!

Discover dedicated activity zones: Each zone is designed to ignite imagination and foster creativity. Enjoy theatrical flair in the Performance Play area and build and invent in Loose Parts Play. Active Play offers sports and physical challenges, while Toddler + Soft Play ensures fun for the youngest adventurers. Additionally, a quiet space is available for those who need a peaceful retreat. Create cherished memories with a variety of engaging activities and educational workshops. Join us at Castle Ward’s Summer of Play for an unforgettable adventure!

Farmyard Zone

Ready, set, go at the farmyard zone where little and bigger visitors can get competitve in the Tractor Race Zone and on the Hobby Horse track.

Adventure Play and Rest

Parents can take the opportunity for a well earned sit down here whilst the kids try out their balance and climbing skills on the obstacle.

Courtyard Games

Gather in the Courtyard for fun and lots of traditional games like giant chess, juggling clubs, hula hoops and more. Children can build, balance, stack and invent using an assortment of materials and objects. Aspiring actors, singers and storytellers will find their stage in the Performance Play Zone. With a variety of props and costumes on hand, children can step into character and put on their own shows. For those who prefer a calm, sensory-friendly environment, the book nook provides a soothing retreat. With gentle activities and relaxed seating, this zone is perfect for quiet reflection, mindful play or simply taking a break from the excitement of the day.

Frontlawn Games

Is it even summer if you haven't had a game of badminton in front of the Mansion House? You'll also find old school favourites like the egg and spoon race and mansion marbles!

With unique zones to discover, Castle Ward’s Summer of Play promises a day out that’s as playful as it is memorable. Entry is included with general admission or free for National Trust members, and there’s no need to book—just turn up and get stuck in. Bring a picnic, take in the views, and let imaginations run wild as you make the most of summer together.
