'Thy Towers, Tattershall' : A talk from Professor Andrew Jackson

Join us at the Castle to hear Professor Andrew Jackson, talk about the fascinating local writer Bernard Samuel Gilbert and hear him read some of Gilbert’s striking prose and poetry.

  • Booking advisable
  • Admission applies

Tattershall Castle is one of the most prominent buildings featured in the literary region created by Billinghay-born author, Bernard Samuel Gilbert.

Its English Civil War history is central to his 1913 novel ‘Tattershall Castle’, republished in 1924 as ‘John of the Fens’. Gilbert also devoted two illuminating and poignant poems to the Castle, capturing its chequered history whilst marking the significance of its rescue and restoration.

Join us to hear Professor Andrew Jackson, an expert of Gilbert’s life and work, talk about this fascinating local writer and hear him read some of Gilbert’s striking prose and poetry about Tattershall and the surrounding area.

Copies of Professor Jackson’s new book on Gilbert will be available to purchase, and a selection of panels from the touring exhibition ‘Gilbert Country: A Literary Region for Lincolnshire’ will be available to view.

As part of our 100 year stewardship celebrations we are delighted to offer this talk FREE ON ADMISSION. Pre booked tickets advised. Admission charges still apply on arrival.
