Bishopsland Educational Trust Summer School: Enamelling
4-6 August: a 3-day, intermediate-to-advanced course exploring a number of experimental enamelling techniques using powered and lump enamel.
- Booking essential
The techniques covered will include sieving enamel, grinding lump enamel, preparing enamel on 3D and 2D metal surfaces, cloisonné, basse-taille, working with fine gold and silver foil and other surface decoration techniques. If there is something you specifically wish to be covered, please do let us know and we will endeavour to include it.
In this enamelling masterclass you will be strongly encouraged to experiment and develop your skills through a sequence of experimental samples that reflect your personal aesthetic.
Our 3-day intermediate-to-advanced courses are primarily for the Bishopsland Fellows community and other more advanced makers. The course will feature both 1-to-1 and group tutoring, and attendees will be asked beforehand about specific areas or skills you’d like to focus on.
Your tutor for this course is Sheila McDonald. Sheila originally studied Textile Design at the Glasgow School of Art before being drawn towards silversmithing and completing a Masters in Jewellery Design at the Royal College of Art, London. After many years in Norfolk, Sheila has relocated to Scotland and her current workshop is in Beaverhall Studios, Edinburgh. She also teaches short courses at West Dean College, Chichester. Sheila is a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
The course takes place over three days, from 4-6 August. The course fee includes accommodation.
