An Evening of Ghost Stories. A one-man performance by Toby Burchell

In this one-man performance in St Bartholomew's Church, Toby Burchell performs two chilling tales by the finest writers of the ghost story genre.

  • Booking essential

Originally narrated as entertainments for friends, enjoy these perfect traditional ghost stories.

“…this horror was bounding like a tiger at his heels, with blazing eyes and one stringy arm out thrown.”

ACT 1: In Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story, ‘The Signalman’, we follow a railway signalman who keeps watch over a damp, and gloomy railway cutting.

ACT 2: In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘Lot No. 249’, we follow Abercrombie Smith, a student who investigates a series of supernatural occurrences linked to his suspicious neighbour.

This is a candlelit performance taking place in St Bartholomew’s Church and will begin at 7pm on Saturday 17th October 2026.
